Begin - creating a meditation practice

by Jessie Barr

The word 'meditation' means not only to ponder, to think over, to probe, to look, to weigh, it also has a much deeper meaning in Sanskrit - 'to become.'

- Jiddu Krishnamurti

Meditation helps you know yourself better, appreciate yourself and others more, and sleep more soundly. It helps you be more efficient and creative, hold onto less stress, be more balanced and become more comfortable in your own skin.
- Elena Brower

Meditation is a way of greeting ourselves, a way of seeing ourselves and being gentle with ourselves. Even if it's just for a few moments a day sitting in softness with a bit of quiet, making space in our minds and in our hearts.

Craft a Sitting Space

Create a sweet space for yourself.

Where is an area in your home / bedroom that you can craft as a sacred space. By a window? Against a wall? A cozy corner?

Option to have a small puja ( altar) with images, words, figures that inspire devotion, love, compassion.

Time

10 min once a day working up to 15min twice a day

Morning or Night

Choose one and begin there.

Using a timer maybe the app ( I-Qi)

If possible try to do they same time every morning / night.

If not possible no worries but honor the space and time for yourself by committing to it.

Practice

To begin practice the clearing exercise

( a Tantric Buddhist practice)

Exhaling anything on your mind, all the mundane ordinary thoughts and inhaling warm, gentle light.

If it inspires you or feeds you give the color a hue- a golden white light, for example.
